Veterinary Requirements for Pet Travel

To enter Lebanon from the UK, pets must meet specific requirements: they need to be microchipped, have all necessary current vaccinations (including rabies), and be accompanied by an Export Health Certificate.

Detailed Requirements

• Microchip 🐶 🐱

  Microchipping is a quick and straightforward procedure where a tiny device is inserted under your pet’s skin. It provides a permanent identification method required by law in the UK for all Dogs and Cats.

  To travel to Lebanon, your pet will need an ISO 11784 / 11785 microchip.

• Standard Vaccinations 🩺

  Your pet will need to have up-to-date vaccinations.

  For Dogs, these include:

  • Canine Distemper Virus

  • Canine Parvovirus

  • Infectious Canine Hepatitis

  • Leptospirosis

  For Cats, these include:

  • Feline Calicivirus

  • Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV)

  • Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis

• Rabies Vaccination 💉

  The Rabies vaccination, while not routine in the UK due to its rabies-free status, is essential for your Pet to travel to Lebanon.
  The vaccination must be administered at least 30 days prior to departure and no more than 12 months in advance.

  Here’s what your Rabies vaccination documentation should include:

  • Pet details and the 15-digit microchip number.

  • Date of rabies vaccination.

  • Vaccine batch number and manufacturer.

  • Vet’s signature and practice stamp.

  🚨 Attention: If you are planning to get your pet vaccinated, please note that Rabies and routine vaccinations should not be given on the same day, as they may invalidate each other.

• Export Health Certificate 📑

  The Export Health Certificate (EHC) is a special document which includes and certifies that your pet fulfils the Veterinary Health Requirements to travel to Lebanon. This essential document must be:

  • Issued by an Official Veterinarian, after a request is submitted to DEFRA, no more than 96hrs before the departure date

  • Legalised, to be officially recognised in Lebanon (see below).

  ⚠️ N.B.: Not all vets can issue an EHC—this service is only provided by Official Veterinarians (OVs).

• Legalisation

  Once the EHC has been issued and signed by the Official Veterinarian (OV), it must undergo legalisation to be officially recognised in Lebanon.

  First, the certificate must be submitted to the UK Legalisation Office (FCDO), where the signature and stamp are verified, and an apostille is attached. After this, the apostilled certificate must be taken or sent to the Lebanese Consulate, where it is further legalised to confirm its validity for use in Lebanon.

  This two-step legalisation process ensures the EHC is fully accepted by Lebanese authorities.
