Veterinary Requirements for Pet Travel to Brazil
According to official guidance from the UK government and Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, dogs and cats entering Brazil from the UK must have an International Veterinary Certificate or Pet Passport endorsed by an Official Government Veterinarian, as private certifications are not accepted. They must also be vaccinated against rabies and receive a broad-spectrum parasite treatment within 15 days before the certificate's issue date.

Microchipping is a quick and straightforward procedure where a tiny device is inserted under your pet’s skin. It provides a permanent identification method required by law in the UK for all Dogs and Cats.
To travel to Brazil, your pet will need an ISO 11784 / 11785 microchip.

Your pet must be vaccinated against Rabies at least 21 days and no more than 12 months before travelling to Brazil.
We also recommend the following vaccinations for cats and dogs:
🐶 Dogs: Distemper, Parvovirus, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis
🐱 Cats: Cat flu (feline herpes virus and feline calicivirus), Feline infectious enteritis (parvovirus), Feline leukaemia virus
🚨 Pro Tip: If you are planning to get your pet vaccinated, please note that Rabies and routine vaccinations should not be given on the same day, as they may invalidate each other.
According to the UK government guidance, your Rabies vaccination documentation should include:
Pet details and the 15-digit microchip number.
Date of rabies vaccination.
Vaccine batch number and manufacturer.
Vet’s signature and practice stamp.

Your pet must undergo treatment for internal and external parasites within 15 days prior to travel.

The Export Health Certificate (EHC) is a special document which includes and certifies that your pet fulfils the Veterinary Health Requirements to travel to Brazil. This essential document must be:
Issued by an Official Veterinarian, after a request is submitted to DEFRA, no more than 10 days before the departure date, and following a physical examination of your Pet.
⚠️ N.B.: Not all vets can issue an EHC—this service is only provided by Official Veterinarians (OVs).
