What are the OV66 checks?
As reported on the official website of the DAFF (here), from 4 November 2024 the UK and Australia introduced a new identity verification process for cats and dogs. Pets that complete this process as part of their travel preparations from the UK to Australia will be eligible for a reduced 10-day quarantine, instead of the standard 30 days.
The OV66 Process Explained
To complete the new OV66 identity check process, two separate ID checks, from two different OV66 authorised vets, must be performed between 180 and 365 days prior to export.
First ID Check
✅ Conducted by: An OV66-authorised vet (OV1)
✅ Procedure: Pet's microchip is scanned and verified. A colour photograph showing the microchip number on the scanner is taken.
✅ Documentation: ID declaration form is completed and submitted to DAFF by the OV.
Second ID Check
✅ Conducted by: A different OV66-authorised vet (OV2), registered at a separate practice
✅ Procedure: Pet's microchip scanned and verified again. Another colour photograph showing the microchip number is taken.
✅ Documentation: Separate ID declaration form completed and submitted to DAFF by OV2.
⚠️ Requirements
Both ID checks must be completed before the RNATT blood sampling, which ideally should be at least 30 days after the Rabies vaccination.
The second ID check can be done on the same day as RNATT blood sampling.
The OV who takes the RNATT blood sample cannot complete the RNATT declaration.
