Are you planning to take your beloved dog or cat to Thailand? We’ve got you covered! ✈️🐾

At AHC Specialists, we provide expert assistance for travelling with pets, ensuring you meet all official requirements for a smooth journey. 🏆

Requirements for Taking Your Pet to Thailand from the UK

To travel with your dog or cat from the UK to Thailand, you’ll need two key documents:

  • Import Permit from the Department of Livestock Development in Thailand 📜

  • Export Health Certificate (EHC) issued in the UK ✅

The Import Permit is mandatory for pets entering Thailand. It is valid for 60 days and must be secured before travelling. You can download the application from the department’s website.

The EHC must be approved by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) and signed by an Official Veterinarian (OV) trained and authorised to complete Export Health Certificates. 🩺

Key Requirements for Obtaining the Import Permit and EHC

1. Microchip and Vaccinations 💉

Your pet must have a microchip and full routine vaccinations before travelling.

Rabies Vaccination 🦠

  • Strongly recommended due to Thailand’s risk of rabies.

  • Not mandatory if your pet has been in the UK for at least 6 months.

  • If administered, the rabies vaccine must be given at least 21 days before travel and no more than one year prior.

Dog Vaccinations 🐕

Dogs must be up to date with:

  • Leptospirosis (Alternative: A negative Leptospirosis test within 30 days prior to export).

  • Distemper.

  • Parvovirus.

  • Hepatitis.

Cat Vaccinations 🐈

Cats must be fully vaccinated against:

  • Rhinotracheitis.

  • Calicivirus.

  • Panleucopenia.

Important Notes:

  • Rabies vaccination and routine vaccinations must not be given on the same day, or they will be invalidated. ❌

  • All vaccinations must be administered at least 21 days before travel and no more than one year earlier as per manufacturer guidelines.

  • Pets must travel with their original vaccine cards.

  • Vaccination cards must include the vet’s full name, signature, and practice stamp on each vaccine.

2. Clinical Examination 🩺

Your pet must undergo a clinical examination by a vet within 72 hours before departure. The vet will ensure your pet is healthy and fit to travel and issue the necessary:

  • Export Health Certificate 📄

  • Fit to Fly Certificate ✈️

Once these requirements are met, we provide you with the necessary Export Health Certificate, making your travel stress-free. 🎉

3. Additional Considerations

  • Additional certifications may be required if you are transiting through other countries.

  • Most of our clients travel from London with Qatar Airways and Emirates.
