Veterinary Requirements for Pet Travel to Thailand
To enter Thailand from the UK, pets must meet specific requirements: they will need to have an Import Permit from the local authorities, must be microchipped, have multiple valid vaccinations, and be accompanied by an Export Health Certificate.

To import a dog into Thailand from the UK, an import permit is required. This permit is issued by the Thai Department of Livestock Development.
You must apply in advance, preferably at least 7-15 business days before your travel date, by emailing the necessary documents to the Animal Quarantine Station at your port of entry. The required documents include an application form, a copy of your passport, a photo of your dog, flight details, and your dog's vaccination and microchip records.
The permit is valid for 60 days. Upon arrival in Thailand, you must present the permit and your dog's health certificate to a veterinary officer from the Animal Quarantine Station (AQS) at the airport, who will then issue the final import license.

Microchipping is a quick and straightforward procedure where a tiny device is inserted under your pet’s skin. It provides a permanent identification method required by law in the UK for all Dogs and Cats.
To travel to Thailand, your pet will need an ISO 11784 / 11785 microchip.

For pets coming from the UK, Rabies vaccination is not mandatory for Thailand, but is strongly advised.
Pets should be vaccinated against Rabies at least 21 days and no more than 12 months before travelling.🚨 Pro Tip: If you are planning to get your pet vaccinated, please note that Rabies and routine vaccinations should not be given on the same day, as they may invalidate each other.
According to the UK government guidance, your Rabies vaccination documentation should include:
Pet details and the 15-digit microchip number.
Date of rabies vaccination.
Vaccine batch number and manufacturer.
Vet’s signature and practice stamp.

In addition to a current rabies vaccination, dogs must also be vaccinated against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and leptospirosis. These vaccinations must be administered at least 21 days before departure.
For leptospirosis, if a vaccination has not been given, a negative test result is required within 30 days of travel.
All vaccination records must be included on the official Health Certificate.

The Export Health Certificate (EHC) is a special document which includes and certifies that your pet fulfils the Veterinary Health Requirements to travel to Thailand. This essential document must be:
Issued by an Official Veterinarian, after a request is submitted to DEFRA, no more than 3 days before the departure date, and following a physical examination of your Pet.
